Earlier today, Apple officially released the final version of iOS 11 to the public. Users had been waiting for a long time to get their hands on the updated firmware because it offered a handful of new forward facing features as well as upgrading the existing ones. At this point in time, iOS 11 is living in hype as users have not yet gotten used to the firmware and everything they experience is new. However, there are new changes coming to the platform as well. Now, Apple has announced that it has raised the cellular download limit of apps and updates to 150 MB. So let's dive in to see some more details on the subject.
Apple Raised Cellular Download Limit To 150 MB From A 100 MB
Before today, users had the ability to download 100 MB over-the-air apps. Now the company has raised the limit by 50 MB, altogether 150 MB. What this means is that you can now download updates and various apps from the App Store over your host cellular connection. However, do take note that if an app or update is larger than 150 MB than you would have to download it via your host Wi-Fi network.
Higher Limit for Over-the-Air Downloads
We’ve increased the cellular download limit from 100 MB to 150 MB, letting customers download more apps from the App Store over their cellular network.
This is not the first time that Apple has raised its cellular over-the-air app download limit. Back in the initial days when the company launched the App Store, the OTA download limit was only 20 MB. Gradually, the company raised the limit to 50 MB in March of 2012. Lastly, after some time in September 2013, the company decided to further increase the download limit to 100 MB. This was the last raised Apple implemented in terms of cellular download limit. This means that it has been quite a while since we have experienced a raised download limit.
If you're opting for this, do take note that if the automatic updates are enabled on your iPhone, better re-evaluate your decision as it would incur an increase in mobile data usage.
