PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS has managed to become one of the most successful Early Access games ever released, but there's still plenty to be done before its full release. Creative Director Brendan Greene and his team are working hard on future features and gameplay mechanics, and it seems like competitive play modes are among them.

In a fresh Reddit AMA held on the PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS subreddit, Brendan Greene confirmed that the team is planning to add a ranked mode to the game. No other detail has been shared.

Additionally, the team is also planning to add other progression systems to keep players engaged, such as a character leveling system and a weapon skill system. Both, apparently, will not affect gameplay.

Regarding other gameplay mechanics, Brendan Greene also confirmed that the team discussed changes to the Blue Zone system to make it fairer and the implementation of penetration systems. Performance issues have also been discussed.

We implemented a new shadow system that costs very little in terms of performance which is why it is now forced. The main issue is that our game is still somewhat CPU limited, and this effects higher spec systems more than low spec ones. We still have much work to do when it comes to optimisation, but as I said, we are commited to this task, even if it takes us some time to complete. And regarding PP, please remember that nothing we add is final, and we are using the Early Access period to test and get feedback on anything we add to the game.

PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS is now out on Steam as an Early Access game.
