Backup Everything in a Secure Location

Usually, macOS updates tend to go through without a hiccup. But even Apple itself recommends backing up everything before going ahead with the upgrade. There are four routes you can take in order to save your files:

  • Save your content to iCloud.
  • Create a Time Machine backup.
  • Burn your content onto a CD or DVD drive.
  • Use an external storage drive.

Regardless of which route you take, you can learn more about it by heading over to this link.

Is Your Mac Compatible with macOS High Sierra?

If your Mac can run macOS Sierra then you can run High Sierra too. But just in case, head over to this post and find out if you have a compatible Mac at hand. This is absolutely crucial information to know since you do not want to end up being disappointed when the update eventually becomes available later in the day.

  • iMac – 2009 or later.
  • MacBook – 2009 or later.
  • Mac Pro – 2010 or later.
  • Mac mini – 2010 or later.
  • MacBook Pro – 2010 or later.
  • MacBook Air – 2010 or later.

Free Up Some Space (Lots of it)

The final macOS High Sierra update is going to span a few gigabytes in download size, therefore it's vital that you have at least 10 to 15GB of space available. This step is important only if you are planning to update using the over the air route. Skip it entirely if you are going ahead with a clean install.

Grab a 8GB USB Flash Drive (for Clean Install)

If you are going to clean install macOS High Sierra then it's recommended that you source yourself a USB flash drive ahead of time. A 8GB one will be more than enough and they're cheap to come by too.

Let the Wait Begin

If you're all through with everyone above, then it's a time of waiting everything out. We will notify our readers as soon as High Sierra becomes available for download.

Update: macOS High Sierra is now available to download.
