Just like we mentioned in our detailed Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL rumor roundup, last minute leaks are inevitable and what better way to start the month of October than with a leak showing the flagship bearing a new design. While the screen-to-body ratio might not be as high as that of the Galaxy Note 8, it sure beats the heck out of the original Pixel XL.
Smaller Screen-to-Body Ratio on Pixel 2 XL Shown to Be Adopted to Make Way for Front-Firing Speakers
Evan Blass has shared an image which claims is the Pixel 2 XL that is encased in a smartphone accessory, but there are several cosmetic changes present that bring a whirlpool of differences if you’re comparing it to the Pixel XL. Firstly, the screen-to-body ratio is higher but not as high as to pit it against the Galaxy Note 8, but there is a reason for this.
If you look carefully at this image, you will be able to see two front-firing speakers at the top and bottom and if you’re manufacturing a phone at this stage that’s expected to be an ‘all-screen’ design, then you will need to make some trade-offs.
With a slightly less screen-to-body percentage, you’re getting dual-front-firing speakers, which will be great for media consumption if you plan to stream or engage in different forms of content without using earphones. Personally, I am a fan of the bezel-less approach but its string of trade-offs makes me want to switch back to the previous design language. However, on this occasion, I am quite taken with this change.
Unfortunately, if you are going to own the Pixel 2 XL then it will cost you dearly because the rumored starting price of the flagship is $849, but at least you’re getting the changes that you desire. Remember, at this point, you cannot expect manufacturers to adopt a complete ‘all-screen’ phone without putting a bunch of sacrifices so let us know down in the comments what you think of this latest leak.
