Apple's iPhone X just might be the biggest smartphone launch of 2017. The device featured on the largest amount of rumors and leaks on the rumor mill. It also features Facial Recognition, a first for any smartphone, flagship or otherwise. Subsequently, the hype surrounding the smartphone isn't what the lineup has witnessed over the past couple of years. Apple's iPhone X 'Super-Cycle' Forecast Shifted To 2018 Due To Supply Chain Problems - KGI's Ming-Chi Kuo
We've seen a lot of interesting rumors related to the iPhone X prior to its launch. One of these, of a 'super-cycle' is on the mind of a lot of analysts. I've personally read forecasts of several investment banks which have believed, since 2014, about an expected bump in iPhone sales this year. Now, we've got more news on the matter, this time coming straight from everybody's favorite Apple analyst, KGI's Ming-Chi Kuo.
We all know how popular the iPhone X is and how much of an impact it's had on iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus sales. Demand for the pair is low, and won't break any records, anytime soon. However, the iPhone X will face supply chain problems, just like the rumor mill's predicted since this year's first quarter. Now Kuo reiterates these claims.
According to the analyst, "The market generally refers to 2017 as the super cycle of the iPhone, but we think the real super cycle will be in 2018 for the following reasons: (1) TrueDepth Camera's production issues will be significantly addressed in 2018F; (2) new models launched in 2018F will enjoy a longer sales period than those unveiled in 2017; and (3) the product mix, specifications and designs of new iPhone models from 2018F will be more competitive. We estimate that for 2017, iPhone shipments will come in at 210-220mn units, which should grow to be 245-255mn units in 2018."
While Apple might've struck gold with Face ID, assembling the feature on an iPhone isn't as easy as unlocking one with it. More interestingly, Kuo believe that next year's iPhones will be more feature loaded than this year's.
