Samsung’s Galaxy S9 Should Feature Company’s Just Launched ISOCELL Fast 2L9 and Slim 2X7 Camera Sensors With World’s Smallest Pixel Size

The gods of rumor mill are blessing us once again. Now that we're done with all of 2017's flagships, it's time to take a look at what to expect next year. The Galaxy S9 is the first smartphone on our list and now we've got more information for the device. Just a while back a Samsung patent for an air quality sensor surfaced. Now, the Korean tech giant has just launched new and upgraded camera sensors which will make it on its flagships for 2018. Take a look below to find out more.

Samsung Launches The ISOCELL Fast 2L9 and ISOCELL Slim 2X7 Camera Sensors, With 12MP And 24MP Resolution Respectively

When it comes to ranking smartphone manufacturers in terms of production facilities and resources, Samsung is king. Apple might have a lot of extra cash reserves, but Cupertino simply doesn't have the in-house facilities to manufacture components. No where is this deficit more evident than expected delays for the iPhone X. Now, Samsung's leveraging its production strengths to upgrade cameras for its flagship devices.

The Korean tech giant has announced two new camera sensors today. The ISOCELL Fast 2L9 and ISOCELL Slim 2X7 carry resolutions of 12MP and 24MP respectively. The former reduces pixel size to 1.28μm, from 1.4μm while maintaining dual pixel support. Its focus pixels also allow tracking objects in motion and facilitate bokeh with a single camera lens. Finally, a lot of its features remind us of the recently launched Pixel 2. If the sensor does make it on the S9, expect stiff competition between the pair.

The Slim 2X9 on the other hand is the industry's first 24MP camera sensor with a pixel size below 1μm, according to Samsung. This decreased size will not affect quality, as colors between pixels will not interfere with each other. The 2X9 features improved Deep Trench Isolation, which results in reduced cross talk between pixels. DTI works by creating literal grooves between photodiodes, which 'isolates' their electrical signals, eliminating any undue transfer.

Now, the big question remains: Will both the sensors make it on next year's Galaxy S9? The smartphone's rumored to feature a dual camera setup and these latest sensors aren't much for size.
