The iPhone X design might not be an extraordinary introduction in the world of smartphones as we’ve seen a boatload of phones boast that ‘all-screen’ look, Jony Ive, Apple’s design chief reveals that achieving this form for an iPhone actually took a total of 5 years to complete. Looks like all the effort going on behind closed doors were taking place for this product, all the while the company continues to show off the same design for so many years until it hit us with the crown jewel.
Jony Ive Says That Before the iPhone X, There Were Several Prototypes of What the Phone Would Look Like While Covering the Entire Screen
Working on the concept for 5 years, Jony Ive says the company had several prototypes of what the smartphone would look like with an ‘all-screen’ form as well as a facial scanner present at the front. According to the India Times, it took countless failures to get to where the phone is right now.
“For 99% of the time, it didn’t work for us. For the vast majority of the development cycle, all we had were things that failed. By definition, if they didn’t fail halfway through, then we’d be done.”
Speaking about the internals of the iPhone X, the A11 Bionic was a product of a multiple-year development project that went onto 3 years, so you can expect what sort of efforts went into not just the design of the phone but also the hardware that powers it.
Ive also states that the introduction of the iPhone X brings about a new chapter of smartphones when design and hardware merge together.
