It was only logical that Apple would release iOS 11.0.3 this week and it did. The update, just like the ones before it, fixes some bugs which iPhone and iPad users might have been facing. With the new update comes an option for users that they can downgrade back to a previous version of iOS that is currently being signed. At the time of writing, Apple is signing iOS 11.0.2 and iOS 11.0.1. This means you can, with the help of iTunes, downgrade iOS 11.0.3 back to the aforementioned software releases right away. Keep one thing in mind explicitly: the downgrade process will erase your iPhone or iPad completely, therefore make a backup of everything using iTunes or iCloud. It's absolutely vital that you do that before going ahead with the tutorial.
Prerequisites.
- Download iOS 11.0.2 or iOS 11.0.1.
- Download and install iTunes on your PC or Mac. You Can get it from: apple.com/itunes
- Keep your Lightning cable handy.
Downgrade iOS 11.0.3 Tutorial.
1. Connect your iPhone or iPad to your computer using a Lightning cable.
2. Launch iTunes.
3. Click on the little 'iPhone' shaped icon at the top left corner of iTunes.
4. Now click on the Restore iPhone button while holding down the left Shift key (Windows) or the left Option key (Mac).
5. Select the iOS 11.0.2 / iOS 11.0.1 firmware file you downloaded.
6. The firmware will now be processed by iTunes, verified by Apple and ultimately restored. The entire process will take no more than 10 minutes, give or take.
Given the bug fix benefits iOS 11.0.3 brings to the table, I wouldn't really recommend downgrading at all. But obviously, might have solid reasons of your own.
It's really sad that Apple has stopped signing iOS 10 a while back, closing the opportunity for users to downgrade in case they didn't end up liking iOS 11 for whatever reason. This means your ultimate destination going forward is iOS 11 whether you like it or not. But hey, we all end up liking Apple's software ultimately down the line. I'm sure you will too.
