Apple's had an interesting year. Cupertino posted its quarterly results a while back, and the gamble it made with the iPhone X paid off. ASP increased by $100 and investors are happy - for the time being. Apple is too reliant on the iPhone lineup for revenues and even the slightest fluctuation create ripples of worry. Speaking of the iPhone, everyone's favorite analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo from KGI securities is back today. And he's got some interesting predictions. Take a look below to find out more details.

6.1 LCD iPhone Will Account For 50% Of Apple's New Handset Shipments In 2018; LCD iPhones Will Prove More Popular Than Their OLED Counterparts Believes KGI Securities' Ming-Chi Kuo

Ah, OLED displays. Seems like nothing Apple can do with them is right at the moment. Prior to September 2017, Cupertino was bombarded with demands of upgraded displays on the iPhone. And rightly so. After all, Android had moved up ages back and Apple was lagging behind - something which investors and longtime company fans absolutely detest. Now that the iPhone X is out, Apple's fortunes are ready to change once again.

Famous Apple analyst, KGI securities' Ming-Chi Kuo is back today, with interesting news for 2018. He reiterates earlier claims of two OLED and one LCD iPhone this year, but, Kuo believes that the LCD smartphone will outpace its brothers. To recap, right now, Apple is rumored to launch a 6.1" LCD and 5.8" + 6.5" OLED iPhones this year. This interest in the 6.1" iPhone will boost sales for Apple's LCD suppliers who have seen tough fortunes of late.

The increased popularity of this mythical 6.1" LCD iPhone will also boost sales for Apple's long time supply chain partner, Catcher. The firm will supply aluminum frames for the smartphone. Kuo also has some disappointing news for the larger 6.5" OLED iPhone, dubbed as the iPhone X Plus. LG display will provide Apple with the device's screen and according to Kuo, it might fall short of the required quantity. Not everyone has Samsung's near unlimited resources after all.

The OLED iPhones will also feature stacked boards, allowing more space for components and making them compact at the same time. The LCD iPhone 9 will not feature this, and will instead stick to a traditional single layer board design. Kuo's prediction that the LCD iPhone 9 will outsell its counterparts sounds a bit counter-intuitive if you ask us, unless, Apple's customer base desires larger screen sizes over OLED. Even then, 6.1" should prove adequate for most folks. Thoughts? Let us know what you think in the comments section below and stay tuned. We'll keep you updated on the latest.
