Samsung Will Start Selling its Exynos Chipsets to Smartphone Makers to Expand Its Mobile Business

After Qualcomm opened its doors for the press, benchmark leaks for Samsung's Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ have kicked up in pace. Coincidental or not, these give us a better chance to ascertain what consumers are in store for the rest of 2018. Right now, Samsung's flagship smartphones will allow a better look at their processors - the Exynos 9810 and the Snapdragon 845. Both, have their strengths and weaknesses, which will stay consistent this year as well. However, most folks are eager to emphasize only on one aspect of performance and declare a single chip as the 'winner'. This, as we'll explain below, lacks forethought. Take a look for the details.

Fresh Exynos 9810 Benchmarks For Samsung's Galaxy S9 Show Modest Computational Lead; Do Not Answer Questions Related To GPU Performance

Yesterday, one of the first few benchmarks for Samsung's Exynos 9810 came to light. These demonstrated that the company's M3 cores will outperform Qualcomm's Kryo counterparts. However, switch over to GPU performance, and Qualcomm will resume its lead. Today, we've got more benchmarks for you. These demonstrate the first case, where Samsung's Exynos 9810 outshines the Snapdragon 845 - by a small margin.

Yet, before you completely discard this result, we've got another important detail as well. In the benchmarks below, 6GB RAM supports Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845. Its Exynos counterpart on the other hand, features only 4GB. So, if all things are held equal, do expect the latter with a strong performance punch when it lands later this month, especially for multi-core results.

Today, the Snapdragon 845 scores 2455 points in single-core and 8312 points in multi-core tests. The Exynos 9810 leads by 1262 and 527 points in single and multi-core results respectively. Keeping in mind RAM constraints, the Exynos' multi-core score of 8839 is easily explained. Samsung's latest will cross the 9000 barrier if equipped with adequate RAM. The performance difference between Cortex A55 and Kryo Silver is absolutely eye-opening as well.

If we're bold, then it's pertinent to assume that Qualcomm's tinkering around with ARM's design costs it a lot in CPU performance. A 1262 difference is hard to make up for, even with the Adreno lineup's dominance in graphics. However, before you form any solid opinions, keep in mind that these results are far from concrete. Real life performance is only gauged when devices are available for testing. Thoughts? Let us know what you think in the comments section below and stay tuned. We'll keep you updated on the latest.
