The Nintendo Switch console did great on the market last year, and it looks like things aren't going to slow down this year, as the console is the best selling one in the US for the past month.

According to a report from Venture Beat, the latest Nintendo console is the best selling console in the US for January. NPD analyst Mat Piscatella confirmed that the console managed to sell more units than the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but the gap between the best selling and the third best in dollar sales is only 3 percent.

In dollar sales, the gap between the top-selling platform and the third best-selling was only 3 percent. Nintendo Switch was the month’s best-selling platform in Unit sales, while PlayStation 4 topped dollar sales. Xbox One dollar and unit sales in January 2018 are the highest achieved for the platform in a January month.

The console market as a whole is proving to be quite healthy in the US, as January 2018 dollar sales have been the highest since January 2011.

January hardware dollar sales of $278 million is the highest level achieved since the $323 million sold in January 2011. Over one million units of hardware sold in January 2018, also the highest tally since January 2011.

The Nintendo Switch is proving to be quite popular not only in the US, but also in Japan, where traditional home consoles have been struggling these past few years. The console is the fastest selling one ever in Japan, managing to do even better than the PlayStation 2.
