Users Can Now Get a Detailed Glimpse of Apps and Games on the App Store, Thanks to Increased Screenshot Limit for Developers
Whenever you're about to download an app or a game from the App Store (whichever platform) you can get a glimpse of what you're getting into thanks to the screenshots which developers have attached to their download pages. While those screenshots may be helpful into giving you an idea what the app is about, but it might not be enough for a lot of users. So, in order to combat this situation, Apple is now informing developers that they can now add up to ten screenshots on the App Store for their apps and games. Previously, the screenshots were just limited to five, along with three thirty-second video previews.
Here's the official literature on the matter from Apple itself:
You can now display up to 10 screenshots on your product page on the App Store for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Apple TV, to show customers more of your app’s experience.
Personally, I find the limit of five to be absolutely OK. However, there are certain apps which demand a thorough review from the user before going ahead with the download. These are mostly paid apps, of course. For free apps, it really doesn't matter. You can always get rid of the app even if you don't like it. After all, you are not spending anything on them anyway.
Since Apple has started to inform developers today, therefore expect the change to rollout in all App Store iterations - iOS, macOS, tvOS and watchOS - sooner rather than later.
