Last week, reports about the next entry in the Battlefield series have started coming in, reports that have been met with a mixed reception, not surprising considering the whole Star Wars Battlefront 23 loot boxes controversy. According to reports, however, the next game by DICE likely will not feature any pay-to-win microtransaction.
Kotaku recently looked into other recent reports regarding the next Battlefield loot boxes and has revealed that the team is being very cautious, not wanting to end up with another Battlefront 2 like controversy. One person close to the next Battlefield talked about pay-to-win microtransactions, revealing that no one is going to do them anymore, as the Battlefront 2 controversy hasn't been taken lightly.
Reports on the total lack of pay-to-win microtransactions are accurate, but premature apparently. While plans may change down the line, however, DICE is hoping to only have cosmetic microtransactions, like in Battlefield 1.
That report is accurate, if a bit premature, say people I’ve spoken to. Two people close to DICE told me that, while microtransaction plans for the next Battlefield have changed before and will no doubt change again before the game is out this fall, the company is indeed hoping to stick to cosmetics. One person added the caveat that US Gamer is “making a conclusion about something that is still inconclusive.”
