The Samsung Galaxy Note9 Will Not Feature Virtual Fingerprint Recognition As The Feature Does Not Work Well With Screen Protectors
If you're a regular flagship mobile user, you will know that purchasing the gadget is not the end of the journey. Instead, in addition to the device, users also purchase screen protectors and cases. After all, smartphones with a $700-$1000 price tag are expensive property - and resale value is inversely proportional to the amount of bumps and scratches on a device. And, no body wants to go through the hassle of having the display of their device replaced - screen protectors therefore form a good first line of defense against falls and drops.
As we have told you countless times before, rumors for a virtual, under-the-display fingerprint sensor for Samsung's flagship gadgets are floating around on the rumor mill since before the Galaxy S8. It's this feature, according to some, which forced Samsung to hastily relegate the S8 lineup's fingerprint sensor to the back; initially, Samsung expected virtual fingerprint sensing to make it on the smartphone, making this decision when Synaptics failed to deliver.

However, after the S8 and Note8 cane and went, new reports started to claim that perhaps the Galaxy Note9 will carry a virtual fingerprint reader. One of the few sources which came to light for this, was KGI's Ming-Chi Kuo. While the analyst generally limits himself to speculate about Apple products, this little bit of love for Samsung caused jitters all around. After all, since we all know months before the September 2017 iPhone event that Apple will not introduce virtual sensing, it suggested that Samsung will finally take the lead.
However, now, Mr. Kuo is back and he believe that Samsung will not introduce under-the-screen fingerprint recognition on the Galaxy Note9. The feature does not work well with screen protectors, and 'environments' which results in a less than stellar success rate. If true, then expect this one critical upgrade to shift next year - when Apple is rumored to launch the feature on its iPhones.
