MacBook Growth for 2018 Could Put the iPad & iPad to Shame

The iPhone and iPad continue to be the primary revenue generating elements for Apple but with MacBook shipments expected to increase in 2018, Apple is looking forward to unveiling some brand new products down the road. According to a popular analyst, MacBook growth for this year is expected to dwarf the growth of iPhones and iPads.

MacBook Growth Expected to Reach 13-16 Percent While iPhone Growth Might Only Achieve Less Than Half That Number

KGI Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted that the year-over-year MacBook shipments tally will grow 13 to 16 percent in 2018. On the other hand, Apple’s remaining significant revenue generators are going to be achieving the following numbers in terms of growth.

  • iPhone - 4-6 percent
  • iPad - 7-10 percent

One reason why Kuo believes that MacBook shipments will be increasing this year because of the new moves that Apple is expected to make this year. The company is expected to release a cheaper MacBook Air, along with an entry-level MacBook that could receive a huge upgrade in the display department. The cheaper MacBook Air is expected to start around $999 and will be competing with the other ultrabooks in the same price category.

In terms of build quality and trackpads, MacBooks are regarded as the industry’s gold-standard in the aforementioned category but those are not going to be enough to warrant a growth for Apple. We believe that the 13-inch MacBook Pro with function keys is going to be phased out since that will create confusion for consumers that want to get their hands on the MacBook Air, which will also come with its own row of function keys.
