Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered Confirmed by New Sources, Axes Multiplayer

Last week Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered was seemingly leaked by Amazon Italy. According to the quickly-pulled listing, the remaster would be a standalone release and only cost $20 (a bit surprising, since the re-release of the first Modern Warfare cost $40). It all sounded fairly plausible, but Activision has yet to confirm anything. Perhaps Amazon Italy just made a mistake?

Well, according to the always-reliable folks at Eurogamer, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is the real deal. Most of the other details leaked by Amazon are also legit – the game will indeed cost €20 (games usually cost the same in euros/dollars) and is scheduled to arrive in April. Eurogamer also added a new wrinkle – Modern Warfare 2 Remastered will only include the game’s single-player campaign. A somewhat surprising move, considering multiplayer is the Call of Duty franchise’s main draw, but the $20 price tag now makes more sense.

The CoD fanatics at Charlie Intel have also provided some information about the new remaster’s development. Raven Software, which headed up the development of Modern Warfare Remastered, won’t be involved in Modern Warfare 2. Instead, the new remaster is being handled solely by Beenox, who previously helped with the single-player portion of Modern Warfare Remastered.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 features one of the more memorable, and controversial, campaigns in franchise history. The No Russian mission, which allows players to participate in a mass shooting at a Moscow airport, has the potential to be particularly divisive today. It will be interesting to see if Activision makes any changes to Modern Warfare 2’s campaign, and, if they don’t, how today’s players respond to it. Does the MW2 campaign still hold up, or is it best left in the past? I suppose we’ll find out.

Again, Activision has yet to announce Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered, but it seems very likely you can expect the game to hit Xbox One and PS4 on April 20.
