In the past few days, we heard something regarding the possible PlayStation 5 release window, with multiple sources stating that it likely will not be released before 2020. Andrew House, former Sony Interactive Entertainment boss, is also convinced that the new console will not be released anytime soon.

Speaking at the GamesBeat conference earlier this week, as reported by Polygon, the former SIE boss talked about the future of PlayStation, noting that the PlayStation 5 is likely in an advanced state of design, but it's unlikely that it will be released anytime soon, as hardware manufacturers are looking into extending hardware cycles as much as possible. House himself feels like consoles are underpenetrated in many parts of the world, and so it makes sense to extend cycles.

I’m very bullish on longer life cycles for consoles. Consoles are so under-represented and under-penetrated in so many markets around the globe. There’s so much potential. Let’s not forget that China is still largely [untapped].

House also mentioned the ability to upgrade consoles mid-generation as one of the reasons why the PlayStation 4 still has a lot of life left.

The latest report regarding the PlayStation 5 console has come in earlier this week, stating that the console will not be released before 2020. Additionally, it seems like the console will be a full-blown next-generation console, and its games will not be playable on PlayStation 4.
