Apple To Address HomePod Ring Marks In Future Iterations Of The Smart Speaker
Mark Gurman from Bloomberg has reported in today's story that the iPhone-maker is working to solve the ring mark situation " with a new material". However, the details on the material to be used was scarce and it cannot be said with certainty which material will the company use.
Reports began surfacing the internet back in February of this year, detailing the HomePod's effects on wooden furniture. When the smart speaker is placed on a wooden surface, it leaves a pale while circular mark. The wood starts to discolor after as little as 20 minutes. Other surfaces like marble and glass have not been affected by the base of the smart speaker.
Apple has previously reported in a support document detailing in the section titled “Where to Place HomePod.”
“It is not unusual for any speaker with a vibration-dampening silicone base to leave mild marks when placed on some wooden surfaces,” reads the document. “The marks can be caused by oils diffusing between the silicone base and the table surface, and will often go away after several days when the speaker is removed from the wooden surface.”
