Today in Android: HTC 10 Gets Oreo 8.0 Update, Galaxy A8 and Others Get April Security Patch

The HTC 10, for all practical purposes, was a bit of a dud. The device didn't sell a whole lot, and the hardware it came with was underwhelming, even for 2016. At the time of launch, it ran Android Marshmallow 6.0 out of the box, and not many expected it to get a second major software upgrade. However, HTC 10 users are in for a surprise, as an OTA just rolled out for the flagship of the yesteryears. The OTA update (v 3.18.605.13) has all the usual Oreo features including picture-in-picture video, notification dots, and autofill providers. HTC has also adopted the new, lighter Oreo system theme you see on stock devices. It includes new security patches, too. It'll be a while before you get it though, as it very well might be the last major OS update the HTC 10 receives.

Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy J7 Prime get April 2018 security patch

In the past few update cycles, we've noticed that Samsung has opted to roll out major security updates to non-flagship devices first. This month isn't any different, with the Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy J7 Prime being the first devices to receive the April security patch. The A8 (2018) is receiving the update in Russia, while the J7 Prime is being updated in Sri Lanka. The build numbers for these updates are A530FXXU2ARD1 and G610FXXU1BRC1 respectively.

The update for the Galaxy A8 brings all the regular security fixes and the option to increase the screen’s touch sensitivity. The option is accessible from the Advanced features menu in the device settings, much like the Galaxy S9 and S9+. It also improves camera stability. The updates should be rolled out globally in a few days, so keep an eye out for them.
