Battlefield V Might Feature a Battle Royale Inspired Mode, Too

Just a few hours ago we reported rumors from multiple sources (CharlieIntel and Kotaku) mentioning that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 would ditch a single player campaign for a Battle Royale mode.

Today, GamesBeat is citing anonymous sources inside EA's DICE that Battlefield V might also feature a mode inspired by the Battle Royale trend. Apparently, it's just a prototype for the time being and might be added to Battlefield V after launch (presumably coming in October) with a free update.

It was really just a matter of time before the biggest publishers in the games industry jumped on the latest trend set by PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Fortnite Battle Royale. It's just too juicy of a pie to pass on when Battlegrounds and Fortnite both engage dozens of millions of players. In fact, we wouldn't be too surprised if Ubisoft also announced some sort of Battle Royale inspired mode or game; Ghost Recon: Wildlands players have repeatedly asked for it, but the developers made it clear that it just wouldn't work due to technology limitations.

The big question is whether PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Fortnite Battle Royale will be able to stand their ground against the upcoming onslaught of Triple-A Battle Royale games and modes. We'll know a lot more of this outlook after E3 2018, anyway, where Electronic Arts and DICE are expected to fully unveil Battlefield V.
