Today in Android: T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S9+ Gets the May Security Patch, Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge Oreo Update Rolling Out ‘Soon’ and More

Nobody is quite sure how they do it, but Samsung managed to roll out the yet-to-be-released May security patch for the T-Mobile variant of the Galaxy S9+ It happened last month and a few times before that, and we may have a trend developing here. T-Mobile’s software update page for the S9 and S9+ doesn’t mention the update anywhere, so it’s possible the update may have been pushed out a too soon. The update brings a new splash screen for when the phone boots up. That’s pretty much it for the noticeable stuff introduced by the update, and we should have information on the kind of vulnerabilities fixed by the May security patch in a couple of days.

The only thing we knew so far about the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge Oreo saga is the fact that the devices will receive the update. Initial speculations placed the release date at around June, but latest developments indicate that it could be sooner. Sammobile spotted an approximate date at Guncelmiyiz; a website run by Samsung Turkey. It provides timeframes for firmware updates and the website was recently updated with a new schedule which stated that Android Oreo for Galaxy S7 would be out by May 18. The website has predicted other major updates accurately, so It’s a good sign. Additionally, the Korean rumour mill is also abuzz with similar news, so brace yourself, as it is very likely the last major software update the devices will get.

Arguably one of the best mid-range smartphones out there, the Mi A1 strikes a perfect balance between price and performance. However, it is overshadowed by the newer, most powerful Redmi Note 5 Pro, owing to its better hardware. Xiaomi hasn't forgotten about the Mi A1 at all, and have been rolling regular updates for it. The device received it's Oreo update earlier this year, which went through a few hiccups, causing the update to be suspended and reinstated multiple times. Today, some XDA Developers users got a hand on a beta release of theAndroid Oreo 8.1 update for the Mi A1. The release is buggy and doesn't offer much in the way of features, but it brings the May security patch, which isn't even technically out yet.
