Apple and Android represent two different spectrums of the smartphone ecosystem. While Cupertino and its loyal fanbase can tout the advantages of superior usability and design due to a closed ecosystem, they still end up losing out on creative (and sometimes even basic) functionality. One of these is printing documents and while iOS does support AirPrint, using it isn't easy due to Apple's hesitancy to open up. Android makes things slightly easier. This guide is a bit more complicated than the usuals and understandably so. Therefore, if you want to print documents using your Android gadget and printer that's or far, you'll first need some pre-requisites. These are:

  • Google Cloud Print on your Android device. If it's not installed on your gadget, you can get it from here.
  • Google Chrome on your computer or the computer that your desired printer is connected to.
  • An internet connection, Google Chrome, and a printer.

All done? Good. Now the first step is to make sure that your printer is linked to Google Cloud Print. To do this, open up Chrome and sign in with your Google account. Click Menu>Settings>Advanced Settings and head over to Google Cloud Print. Click on Manage>Add printers and select your printer from the list that is displayed. This will ensure that your desired printer is now synced with your Google Account.

After you've made sure that your printer is registered with your Google Account, open up your Android device and follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that the Google Account on your device is the same one you registered your printer with.
  2. Open your document/image and tap on the Menu button.
  3. Tap on Print and then the arrow beside 'Save as PDF'.
  4. Select your printer from the list.
  5. Hit the blue button and you're good to go!
