The Samsung Galaxy S10 is a strange smartphone lineup. Generally, rumors and leaks for upcoming smartphones start appearing a handful of months before their launch. This trend has also continued for all of Samsung's Galaxy S lineup smartphones, including the Galaxy S9. However, for the Galaxy S10, we're seeing rumors surface nearly a year in advance of the device's expected launch date.
Samsung will launch three Galaxy S10s next year, in order to celebrate its tenth anniversary. One of these will be a featured packed variant that is rumored to wildly sport both virtual fingerprint recognition and 3D facial recognition. Two Of Three Samsung Galaxy S10 Variants Will Feature Virtual Fingerprint Recognition Next Year As Samsung Will Also Launch An Entry-Level Device
Recently, the tech world was taken by somewhat of a storm when South Korean sources reported that Samsung will launch three variants of the Galaxy S10. These will be dubbed internally as Beyond 0, Beyond 1 and Beyond 2. Out of these, Beyond 1 and Beyond 2 will succeed the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ respectively, while Beyond 0 will be a new entry-level Galaxy S device intended to increase and sustain the S lineup's market share in 2019.
Today, we've got some more details for all three devices. These related to the presence of virtual fingerprint sensor on the trio. Korean sources suggest that Samsung will equip Beyond 1 and Beyond 2 with the feature, while Beyond 0 will get a fingerprint sensor that's located on the device's side. They also corroborate claims of Beyond 0 being an entry-level device from Samsung.
If Samsung does place the sensor on the device's right, it'll be a first for the lineup which has so far seen it placed either on the back or on the front. It's a nice deviation from Samsung's end which goes to show that Seoul really has started to think about its gadgets rather than simply equipping them with popular specifications and features.
Samsung Will Use Qualcomm's Virtual Fingerprint Recognition Sensors For The Galaxy S10 Lineup And Will Cost Samsung $15/Piece
Additionally, we've got more details for the virtual fingerprint sensors cost and manufacturing partners. While was reported earlier that Qualcomm will provide Samsung with FOD (finger on display) sensors, we're now learning that the modules will cost Samsung $15/piece. This is more than seven times the price of current physical fingerprint sensors found on the S9 lineup, which cost Samsung $2/piece.
The sensors will be assembled into a module ready for application by Chinese manufacturer O-Film, after which Samsung will then 'paste' them to the back of its OLED panels for Beyond 1 and Beyond 2. Looks like Galaxy S users are in for a treat next year as Samsung will finally introduce virtual fingerprint recognition on the lineup after three years of rumors.
