Exynos 9820 Reportedly Getting 2 + 2 + 4 Core Configuration With DymaniIQ Architecture

Unlike the Exynos 9810, the upcoming Exynos 9820 is expected to feature a different core configuration, and while it will not be running its in-house GPU like its future affordable devices, it will feature ARM’s Mali-G76 MP18 processor for a 25 percent higher maximum performance boost compared to Exynos 9810’s Mali-G72. The latest rumor surrounding the CPU configuration of the upcoming SoC seems rather odd because instead of having four custom cores, Samsung is reportedly limiting the upcoming Mongoose M4 to a total of two cores, but here’s more juicy information that you guys would love to read about.

Leakster Claims the Mongoose M4’s Performance Will Be Supplemented by Either Cortex-A76 or Cortex-A75 Cores in a 2 + 2 Configuration

The 2 + 2 + 4 configuration implies that the first two will belong to the Mongoose M4, which will reportedly deliver better performance than the Cortex-A76, while the other two will belong to either ARM’s Cortex-A76 or Cortex-A75. We believe that the other two cores will belong to Cortex-A76 since it would not make sense to use an older-gen core with a flagship smartphone unless of course, thermal problems start to sprout.

Ice Universe from Weibo has reported that the clock speed of both cores has not been defined but if the Mongoose M4 will certainly be able to deliver better performance than the Cortex-A76, we suspect it would have a base clock frequency that could go up to 3.00GHz. ARM earlier stated that Cortex-A76 can go up to 3.30GHz, but truth be told, the aforementioned frequency is honestly too optimistic given the previous numbers that ARM has quoted but failing to achieve the same real-world results in future devices.

The remaining quad-core will belong to ARM’s power-efficient cores, which will obviously be the Cortex-A55 and it can be assumed that the Exynos 9820 will allow all cores to function at maximum clock speeds simultaneously in the most taxing of applications, which could only take place when firing up a benchmark or a gaming app.

Still, we want you to take this info with a pinch of salt for now; this is the first time in a long time that Samsung is relying on three different cores to be present in the Exynos 9820 but these details can change immediately in the future. For now, stay tuned and we’ll update you guys with more of this as we come across it.
