With key players such as Apple, Huawei, and Google gearing up to launch their flagship smartphones to capitalize on the holiday shopping season, competition will be stiff as these companies go neck and neck in pursuing customers. Smartphone shipments are expected to pick up from 2019 and the last quarter of 2018 may set the foundation for growth uptick next year. Retail e-commerce sales are expected to grow in the U.S., one of the most lucrative markets of the world, with smartphones being a major driving force.

Even though most major OEMs took a hit because of the declining smartphone sales, industry sources have revealed that competition will intensify in the last quarter of the year. Huawei, which surpassed Apple to become the second largest mobile manufacturer in the world in Q2 2018, is expected to continue to do well.

The company managed to build hype around its upcoming Mate 20 series by unveiling its new SoC, the Kirin 980 at the IFA 2018 trade show that will power the flagship phone. It is the world’s first chipset to be made on a 7nm FinFET process and promises better performance, improved power efficiency, and AI capabilities, and is poised to increase Huawei’s competitiveness. Previously released devices such as the acclaimed P20 series are also expected to continue to sell well.

Sony unveiled its flagship smartphone, the Xperia XZ3 at IFA 2018. The phone, which boasts a curved QHD+ display that supports HDR technology and touts an AI-based menu, is expected to give a boost to the Xperia XZ lineup. Apple’s trio of iPhones that will be unveiled in a few days are expected to perform so well that some analysts have predicted that their shipment will top that of iPhone 6 series. The boost will be given by the price-friendly LCD iPhone which will help Apple reach a wider target audience, not to mention that it will be sold in several colour models.

LG also revealed its G7 One and G7 Fit at the IFA trade show, out of which the 6.1-inch G7 One is said to be one of the most powerful Android One phones on the market currently. OPPO’S Find X and Vivo NEX are also expected to continue to lure customers with their innovative designs.
