Now that Apple's Gather Around event is over, we can start to analyze it. The Cupertino tech giant has announced three new iPhones this year. These are the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and the iPhone Xr. The trio ensures that Face ID is a permanent part of the lineup, as Apple is expected to also migrate Touch ID on a mythical 12" MacBook. If you're looking to get either an iPhone XS or an iPhone XS Max, then this is just the post for you. Take a look below for more details.

Apple Makes A Subtle Shift With The iPhone XS And iPhone XS Max's Retail Package Contents

Back on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, Apple made a small but crucial change. Along with the introduction of its first truly wireless earphones, Apple also removed the 3.5mm earphone jack on the iPhone. Dubbing the move as 'courageous', the move allowed Apple to free up internal space on the smartphones.

At the time, critics of the decision outweighed its supporters. To appease users, Apple also provided a free 3.5mm-to-lightning dongle in the iPhones' retail box. The company continued this tradition last year, but now things have changed. As pointed out by a report earlier this year, the dongle is no more.

As Apple has finally removed the dongle, now you can't use the EarPods with a non-Apple gadget. The following is a complete list of what's inside the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max's retail box:

  • The iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max
  • Lightning EarPods
  • Lightning to USB cable
  • Guide and other documents
  • Standard 5W Power Adapter

The last item on the list is interesting, as its inclusion means Apple still isn't ready to ship Lightning-to-USB C cables with the iPhone. This is strange especially as the company has also removed USB-A connectivity on the MacBook lineup. Apple doesn't like a needless division of its product lineup, and sticking with a USB-A cable on the iPhone should be purely motivated by technical constraints.

Looks like Apple is considering all users with the iPhone as it chooses to still ship the gadgets with the standard Lightning-to-USB A cable. The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max will be available for pre-order in just two days from now. They start at $999 and $1049 respectively
