Last week, several Gear S3 and Gear Sport owners reported accelerated battery drain on their smartwatch, seemingly out of nowhere.  While Samsung has acknowledged the issue and is said to be working on a fix, the root cause of the problem is yet to be determined. Resetting the watch has been offered as a temporary workaround, and it has worked for some people. For those who would rather not reset their watch, here's another workaround that might work.

Like all smart devices, Samsung’s smartwatches collect usage data and send them across to the company so it can improve the user experience. However, this anonymous collection and reporting of usage information takes its toll on battery life. Ideally, it shouldn’t have a significant effect, some users have confirmed that turning off reporting of usage info on their Gear S3 or Gear Sport has fixed the massive battery drain.

On your Gear S3 or Gear Sport open the Settings app, and scroll down to and tap the About Gear option. Here, turn off the Report diagnostic and usage information. Then, restart your watch. Do let us know if the above solution works for you or if you have figured out another way to fix the issue yourself. At this point, the Samsung Health app doesn't seem to be at fault as switching it off has yielded mixed results for several users. Samsung has acknowledged the problem but is yet to roll out a permanent fix. We'll let you know once that happens.
