Crackdown 3 was announced a long time ago, during E3 2014. The third chapter in the over-the-top comic book inspired open world action game, its original release date slipped for three consecutive years from 2016 to late 2018 and now early 2019.

In August 2017, Microsoft's General Manager of Global Publishing Shannon Loftis admitted that the game had been announced too early as the developers underestimated the challenge of meeting a high-quality bar across all of the modes (single player, co-op and multiplayer).

Fans, however, are doubtful after all these delays, particularly for the cloud-based multiplayer destruction that was promised a long time ago.

Still, according to Klobrille (who managed to leak Microsoft's acquisition of Playground Games and the strongly rumored Obsidian acquisition), not only that's still in the game but there'll also be a thousand orbs to collect throughout the city. He confirmed as much in a couple tweets published on his account.

The city in Crackdown 3 is huge. Not only is it over twice the size of the original Crackdown, on top of that it features 1,000 orbs for you to find. And since verticality is key in Crackdown, the highest tower touches the sky at 1.2 km height.

The development of CD3 is essentially the story of building two completely unique experiences. Sumo Digital - Campaign (SP offline or online Co-op for four players). Ruffian Games - Wrecking Zone multiplayer that features 100% destruction (yes, they did it).

Crackdown 3 was originally scheduled to release on February 22nd, 2019, a sort of 'Doomsday' for game releases with Metro: Exodus, Days Gone and Anthem also releasing on that very day. However, Days Gone has since been moved to April and Crackdown 3 itself is now instead listed for February 28th on the Microsoft Store, though there was no official announcement of this small delay.

Three weeks ago, Phil Spencer shared an update via Twitter after playing a new build of the game. According to him, it showed new progress though there was still work to do. We should get more updates during the upcoming X018 event, due on November 10th in Mexico City, where the game is also going to be publicly playable for attendees.
