December 2018 Security Patch Update Rolling Out for the Galaxy S9+ and Tab S4

Samsung is rolling out a new software update for the Galaxy S9+ today, bringing the latest security patch to the flagship device. It is currently rolling out in the Nordic countries. The Galaxy S9+ update is currently rolling out over Samsung Smart Switch, but it should soon be available over the air. The update should also come to the regular Galaxy S9 and expand to more countries in the next few days.

The software version is getting bumped to G965FXXS2BRK3, and it is quite an important update. as it fixes a whopping 40 vulnerabilities that affect Samsung’s software, including vulnerabilities that could allow unauthenticated access to Secure Folder items and the Gallery app and one that “allows access to clipboard information via copy & paste” on the lock screen. It’s not often that so many vulnerabilities are discovered in either core Android or Samsung’s version of the OS, so we can expect Samsung to be rolling out the December patch to most of its recent devices as the days go by.

Both the Wi-Fi and LTE models of the tablet are updated, with software version T830XXU2ARK4 and T835XXU2ARK4 are rolling out in France. Other regions are expected to follow suit soon.  The Galaxy Tab S4 update only offers the new security patch over the air. You can try triggering it from the Settings » Software update menu on the tablet. It may not be available for everyone instantly, and you won't be able to use Smart Switch for this as well.
