The recently released OnePlus 6T is the best sub-$600-priced flagship on the market, thanks to its high-end specifications and features such as the in-display fingerprint scanner. The company has ambitious plans for the next year and plans to release the first 5G-ready smartphone in the market. However, as clarified before, the 5G device would not be the same as the OnePlus 7. However, the launch of the 5G-capable flagship is expected to take place during May 2019, so when will the OnePlus 7 launch?

OnePlus Is Attempting to Keep Its Price Low With Its Upcoming 5G-Ready Device

Speaking during an interview recently, the company’s CEO Pete Lau revealed that he doesn’t expect the 5G smartphone to rake in huge sales, as the 5G technology would still be nascent next year. Coming out with the first 5G phone in the market won’t be an act of one-upmanship by OnePlus, rather it wants to release a 5G phone at the earliest so that its engineers and product development team can deal with all the issues by the time the follow up device arrives in 2020, when 5G would expectedly gain ground.

Lau also revealed that the company is planning to release the device before the end of May 2019, which is around the same time as the OnePlus 7. Since 5G components are more expensive than 4G ones, the 5G device is expected to be more expensive, but the company has revealed that it will try to keep the price as low as possible. The phone will make it to Europe first, where the company has teamed up with the wireless carrier EE.

Word on whether or not the smartphone will feature the Snapdragon 845 or Snapdragon 855 is still under wraps. Keep in mind that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X50 5G modem is compatible with both Snapdragon 835 and Snapdragon 845 as long as it is running as a separate solution.

“The 5G product is not expected to equate to huge sales. It's still early stage. But by 2020 it could already be very different.”

Design wise, the 5G smartphone might resemble the OnePlus 7, but the innards would be different. As for now, the company has released a limited edition of its current flagship, which is called OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition which comes with a whopping 10GB of RAM.

The OnePlus 5G is reportedly going to be more expensive than the OnePlus 6T and if you want to check out our previous coverage related to the company’s plans, the related info is given below.
