Sony Xperia XZ4 Alleged Front Panel Doesn’t Feature a Notch but Touts Slimmer Bezels Than the Galaxy Note 9

Although Sony took a little too long to realize that it needs to keep up with the changing trends, it seems there are certain design facets it’s still holding on to. Case in point, a recently leaked front panel of the upcoming Sony Xperia XZ4 shows several new design choices that Sony might choose for its future flagship.

The Japanese manufacturer is yet to adopt the notch on any of its smartphones, suggesting that the company is not too fond of this design approach. However, the front panel reveals slimmer bezels than the flagship belonging to the Galaxy Note 9. Additionally, looking at how phone makers are adopting the in-display front panel, perhaps Sony might to amenable to this design choice in the future.

The Sony Xperia XZ4 Will Reportedly Have a Significantly Taller Screen Thanks to Its Unique Aspect Ratio

The new leak corroborates what was seen in leaked CAD schematics not too long ago. Per these two leaks, the Sony Xperia XZ4 will have an aspect ratio of 21:9 resulting in a taller display surrounded by really thin bezels. The top bezel and the chin are not the same sizes, which might not bode well for some users as it removes the design uniformity from the smartphone. The leaked image also shows two holes at the front, but don’t get your hopes too high, as previous rumors have alleged that the phone will neither have a dual front camera system nor facial recognition technology.

This means it will most likely just have a single selfie shooter and some sort of sensor next to the earpiece. As mentioned earlier, the Sony Xperia XZ4 will stick to the good old physical fingerprint scanner, and not the in-display fingerprint readers that most high-end phones will come with next year. Physical fingerprint sensors might ensure speedier recognition, but it is time to move forward with the industry. The least surprising thing about the device is that the placement of the fingerprint sensor is not at the back but at the side, which Sony is known for doing.

The only possible saving grace for the company is that it will be a mobile powerhouse. Coming to the specifications, the phone is expected to rock the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, up to 6GB RAM and hefty amounts of internal memory. It will allegedly have a 3,900mAh battery and will most likely be unveiled in February during the MWC 2019 trade show.

The back of the device will reportedly have a triple camera sensor setup, and we’re hoping that Sony incorporates its high-end 48MP flagship camera sensor. Are you excited for the Sony Xperia XZ4 incoming next year? Tell us your thoughts down in the comments.
