Windows 10 October 2018 Update has had a bumpy ride so far. Two and a half months after its initial rollout began, Microsoft has finally opened the floodgates. As reported last month, the company wasn't offering the latest version of Windows 10 to everyone who was clicking on the infamous "check for updates" button.
Before this, Windows 10 version 1809 was being offered to everyone who was hitting this button, however, Microsoft put an end this "seeking" approach after a number of issues pushed the company to put an upgrade block on the OS.
Windows 10 1809 is now available to everyone who wants it...
Microsoft has now confirmed making the Windows 10 October 2018 Update available to everyone who wants to upgrade to the latest version. The update page reads:
Rollout Status as of December 17, 2018: Windows 10, version 1809, is now fully available for advanced users who manually select “Check for updates” via Windows Update.
There are still a few upgrade blocks in place, including for some Intel and AMD-powered devices (more information on those bugs is available here | details on blocking this update is available in this piece).
Please be advised that even though Microsoft is making this update available to everyone, it doesn't mean all the issues have been sorted out. The company considers everyone who hits the "Check for Updates" button as a seeker who is ready to install the latest version. If you aren't an advanced user, you might want to wait a few more weeks before installing Windows 10 October 2018 Update. The company itself continues to suggest to wait until you receive the notification to update your machine to Windows 10 1809.
