Dark Souls Developer From Software Has Two Unannounced Games in the Works

The Dark Souls overseers at From Software are certainly keeping themselves busy. They just released Déraciné for PlayStation VR and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice drops this coming March, but that’s not all they’re working on. In a recent interview with Japanese gaming site 4Gamer, From Software president Hidetaka Miyazaki confirmed that two more games are currently in the works.

As you would expect, Miyazaki didn’t provide many concrete details about these two mystery games, but he did clarify he wasn’t talking about remakes like Dark Souls Remastered and the upcoming Metal Wolf Chaos XD, as those are contracted to outside developers. These are new, in-house-developed From Software titles. According to Miyazaki they’re “both [From Software]-esque games,” and won’t be officially unveiled for a while as they’re still taking shape.

What could these two mystery games be? Many are guessing/hoping Bloodborne 2 will be one of them, but Miyazaki has repeatedly tried to temper excitement for another Bloodborne. Of course, maybe he’s just trying to intentionally misdirect fans. Back in 2016 Miyazaki hinted at several upcoming titles, including a Souls-like that approaches the genre from a “different angle,” and something different and “a bit weird.” Déraciné could fit the “a bit weird” description, but Miyazaki has specifically stated that wasn’t one of the games he was talking about.

So yeah, it’s difficult to say what From Software could be making. It sounds like their two unannounced games will be familiar in terms of tone, but will likely serve up new worlds and mechanics. Beyond that, who’s to say? Gotta hand it to the From folks – they know how to keep the fans guessing.

What would you like to see From Software serve up next? Obviously, Bloodborne 2 would be great, but it’s about time they did another futuristic game – perhaps another Armored Core? I’d also love to see them lean into their penchant for gloomy worlds and do a full-on survival horror game.
