Back in November, Samsung revealed a working prototype of its much-awaited foldable phone. The company apparently showed off the phone to a select group of clients at a private presentation during the CES 2019 trade show, detailing what the phone will look like once finished. After years of waiting, the South Korean behemoth has finally given a release timeframe for the device.
Samsung’s Foldable Phone Will Be Released in the First Half of 2019, but Hardware Specifications Still Not Disclosed
Samsung has been working on its foldable smartphone since ages, but thankfully it finally has something to show for it. This time around it’s not an unconfirmed report from some South Korean publication, as the company’s director of Product Strategy and Marketing, Suzanne de Silva has confirmed that the device will be released in the first half of the year.
However, since this device could be a hit or a miss, Samsung will play it safe. The phone will only be launched in select markets initially and Samsung will only produce one million units at first, most likely to gauge the market. The phone will most likely be released in the company’s home turf of South Korea and a few other countries, and it may take time to make it to the U.S. and Europe.
Apparently, there are still a few problems with the device right now as the prototype leaves a crease mark when it is folded. Since folding the phone completely can cause it to break, so Samsung is working out a solution so that the edges remain slightly lifted when the device is folded. Hopefully, all the issues will be ironed out in time for an H1 release. The company will apparently market the device as being an excellent tool for multitasking and it will probably cost upwards of $1,800, according to previous rumors.
There’s no word on the hardware specifications that Samsung will use but it’s possible the Korean giant incorporates its Exynos 9820. A separate rumor claims that the device will feature up to 8GB RAM, which is only fitting seeing as how the customer might have to end up paying a small fortune for it.
