Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 is official, and soon, it will make an appearance on the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3s and Samsung Galaxy S10. The Snapdragon 855 is Qualcomm's first 7nm chipset, and it features a new core cluster over its predecessor. Additionally, the SoC features a redesigned DSP, AI upgrades and improved photographic output. With this in mind, let's take a look at some benchmarks from a reference device powered by the Snapdragon 855.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Reference Benchmarks Show A 45% Improvement Over The Snapdragon 845 In GeekBench Single Core
While a benchmark score won't tell you how a device feels in your hand, or whether you'll find it comfortable, it does predict performance to an extent. The most important function served by benchmarks is that they allow a uniform medium of comparison across gadgets and even platform. So, if you're trying to get a rough idea of how multiple devices differ in performance, and which one offers the highest bang-per-buck, benchmarks serve as a useful tool.
The good folks over at CNET ran some tests on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 reference device, and the results fall in line with what the company claimed at the processor's launch in Hawaii last year. The device was running on 6GB RAM and had a 6" WQHD-AMOLED display with a 2880x1440 resolution.
The Snapdragon 855 scores 3,475 points in GeekBench 4.3 single core tests, which is an exact 45% improvement over the Snapdragon 845 powering Samsung's Galaxy S9, as noted by CNET. The 855 also crosses the 10k barrier in GeekBench's multi-core tests, managing to match the 2018 iPhone lineup's A12 processor. Apple's 7nm processor scores an aggregate of 11,300 points in GeekBench multi-core, while the Snapdragon 855 scored 11,153 in CNET's tests.

Another big improvement on the Snapdragon 855 is the chip's Antutu score. Out of all the benchmarking platforms out there, Antutu is perhaps the most holistic platform. The Snapdragon 855 scores 357,899 points in Antutu, in a 40% gain over its predecessor. Additionally, the chip also keeps up with the iPhone XS' Antutu score (363,525).
Of course, as these scores are from a reference platform, actual performance from the Snapdragon 855 in gadgets will vary. Nevertheless, the numbers do fall in line with what we'd expect from a 2019 7nm processor. Additionally, they also match scores from Samsung's internal Galaxy S10 tests. Thoughts?
