While the global unlocked variants of the devices are one of the first to receive major OTA updates, their US unlocked counterparts are very often the last. The Android Pie update started rolling out to Sprint AT&T and T-Mobile variants of the Galaxy S8/S8+ and Note 8, and today, the carrier-unlocked version is receiving the much-awaited update.
The OTA update weighs around 1.5 GB and includes the March security patch along with the usual Android Pie and OneUI goodies. The firmware versions are G9501U1UEU5DSC1, G950U1OYM5DSC1, and G950U1UEU5DSC1 for the Galaxy S8 and N950U1UEU5DSC1, N950U1OYM5DSC1 and N950U1UEU5DSC1 for the Galaxy Note 8 and the update weighs in at about 1.5GB. It includes all the standard Android Pie features such as App Actions, Slices and Digital Wellbeing along with Samsung's new OneUI design.
Not all users might be able to download the update just yet, as it is usually rolled out in batches. To check if you’re at the receiving end of one, go to Settings, click on Software Update, and tap the Download updates manually option. You can even try using Samsung Smart Switch to sideload the OTA to your device via a PC/Mac.
This could very well be the last major software upgrade the devices receive. All three devices launched with Android Nougat and Pie marks the end of their upgrade cycle. But, all isn't lost just yet. The Galaxy Note 7 FE (the Galaxy Note 7 that didn't explode) received its third major software upgrade in the form of Android Pie. Even Google surprised everyone by announcing that the first generation Pixel would receive Android Q. The 'industry standard' is still considered to be two major software upgrades. The only way that changes is when larger OEMs such as Google and Samsung decide that two isn't enough and do something about it.
