Yesterday, the first details on the PlayStation 5 were finally revealed through a report posted on Wired. The report mostly focused on the hardware, but the console's launch price has been discussed during the interview, and it's likely that it's going to be higher than anticipated.

Peter Rubin, who wrote the PlayStation 5 reveal story for Wired, recently revealed that he asked Mark Cerny about the console's price. While nothing could be confirmed, Cerny's words make it clear that it's going to cost more than anticipated.

Me: There's always been a general range of launch pricing. Will the next console hew to that range?

@cerny: I believe that we will be able to release it at an SRP [suggested retail price] that will be appealing to gamers in light of its advanced feature set.

Me: Meaning that it may cost a bit more but what you're getting is well worth it?

@cerny: That's about all I can say about it.

According to yesterday's report, the PlayStation 5 is indeed going to be an appealing console, It will be powered by a CPU based on the third generation of AMD’s Ryzen line and by a GPU that will support Ray Tracing.

The CPU is based on the third generation of AMD’s Ryzen line and contains eight cores of the company’s new 7nm Zen 2 microarchitecture. The GPU, a custom variant of Radeon’s Navi family, will support ray tracing, a technique that models the travel of light to simulate complex interactions in 3D environments.
